Marketing and My Life
I’m Amanda, a marketing professional based in Cleveland, Ohio. My true loves are writing, empowering others to tell their stories, and cats.
At my full-time job, I am the Digital Marketing Manager at KHM Travel Group, a host travel agency. This role has given me the opportunity to work closely with small business owners (travel agents, actually) and learn how about their challenges with building their businesses. Prior to that I was a freelance writer and food blogger.
I started Marketing is Like because, in the course of promoting myself, and helping others learn how to brand and promote themselves, I discovered that folks struggled with the idea of marketing. They either thought of it as scammy or intimidating, falling far outside of their comfort zone or budget.
And to be honest, I did too. I thought of marketing in terms of Super Bowl commercials and glossy magazine ads. It had not occurred to me that the root of effective marketing — especially in today’s content-saturated world — is compelling storytelling. The micro and macro-moments that make up our daily lives. 🤯
That’s what marketing is really like, and what I’m exploring here.
